Lebanon Update.
As I had foreseen just before, the Syrian-backed government has resigned in Lebanon.
The Syrian regime is clearly using Karame as a fuse, much as they used Hussein's half-brother on the Iraqi side. Next on the list of expendable fuses is Emile Lahoud, the president of Lebanon. Lahoud will stay until the elections, in May. After that, who knows what will happen? The Syrians will be there to feel the wind.
This strategy is working: Walid Jumblatt is already calling the demonstrators for appeasement. Clearly, this does not change the ratio of force in the region. As Lebanon enters political instability and no leader is able to rise against Syria, the Syrian regime will go on acting as they please in Lebanon and elsewhere, in Palestine and Iraq.
As a side-note, neo-cons are already pissing in the wind and chanting victory. Do these people ever learn? They still have not understood that, by killing Hariri, Syria has decided to play hard-ball. Bush and Chirac can't live up to the regime that crushed the Muslim brothers' uprising in Hama, this is what Al-Assad means when he says "We are essential for the fight against terrorism". Unless he is promising more terrorism, as in Israel?
